Two districts, one valley — here's how it works

The single most misunderstood thing about our area: San Pasqual Union (K-8) and San Pasqual High School belong to two entirely separate school districts. This page untangles it.

The 60-second version

Valley kids attend San Pasqual Union School (K-8) — a one-school district all its own, founded 1918. For high school, students move into the Escondido Union High School District, a separate district with its own board and boundaries. Despite the shared name, your assigned high school depends on your address — use EUHSD's school locator to confirm (some valley addresses are assigned to Orange Glen High rather than San Pasqual High).

San Pasqual Union: the little school in the valley

Founded in 1918, San Pasqual Union is its own school district with exactly one school — and that's precisely its charm. About 548 students attend the 26-acre campus at 15305 Rockwood Road, opened in 2001, with 29 classrooms, two science labs, an 18,000-book library, and the iconic red "Barn" gym. Kids in Vistamonte can walk to school; Rancho San Pasqual is minutes away.

  • District & school in one: its own five-member elected board and superintendent
  • Serves: the San Pasqual Valley, including Rancho San Pasqual (confirm any address with the district's boundary map)
  • Community: active PTO and the San Pasqual Union Foundation (don't miss the annual "Boots in the Barn" soirée)
  • Neighbors: a long-standing partnership with the Safari Park next door
  • Transfers: families outside the boundary regularly apply for space-available interdistrict transfers (applications open March 1 for the following year)

The namesake

San Pasqual High School

3300 Bear Valley Parkway — home of the Golden Eagles (~1,850 students, opened 1972). Boys soccer won the CIF Division 2 state championship in 2023, and the school took Gold in the 2026 Best of North County awards. Alumni include US soccer star Shannon MacMillan and MySpace co-founder Tom Anderson.

Which high school is yours?

EUHSD assigns schools by address, and valley addresses don't automatically feed San Pasqual High — some are zoned to Orange Glen High. The district also offers Del Lago Academy (science/health-focused campus) by application. Confirm with the district's official locator before making plans — or before buying a home based on a school.

Nearby & choice schools

Families outside the San Pasqual Union boundary fall in the Escondido Union School District (K-8): Bear Valley Middle and Rincon Middle serve the east side, and Quantum Academy (grades 4–8, at Rincon) is EUSD's STEM choice school. Private and charter options are within a short drive.

Schools news to watch

SPHS agriculture program: in 2025 the district wound down San Pasqual High's long-standing ag/FFA program; students interested in agriculture are directed to Escondido High's farm program. San Pasqual Academy: the county's residential campus for foster youth in the valley remains in limbo — supervisors declined to approve a wind-down in May 2026 and extended public input.
